TNT has announced that it is expanding its e-commerce activities with the acquisition of e-fulfilment specialist TopPak. With this acquisition, through its Parcel Service business, TNT will strengthen its position as market leader in the distribution market and add an important link to its e-fulfilment service chain.

TopPak has revenues of approximately €10 million, handles some 6 million packages per year and has significant growth potential as well as being profitable. The parties did not disclose transaction details.

The company's fulfilment activities include processing orders, stock management and packing products for shipping, in effect handling the entire administrative and logistics chain for orders, either traditional or online.

The acquisition of TopPak is in line with TNT's Vision 2015 strategy on Parcels and Special Delivery Solutions (SDS) as announced in December 2009. TNT aims to develop focused multi-customer network solutions that provide dedicated service quality while improving the economics of the TNT delivery networks.

The acquisition also furthers TopPak's ambition of bringing its service to the attention of more online retailers. TopPak's 100-strong workforce will remain employed at the company's site in Houten, the Netherlands.
