Deutsche Post DHL has announced results for 2009 which exceeded expectations. The EBIT reached 1.47 billion Euros against a forecast of 1.35 billion. Net consolidated profits stood at 644 millions Euros, against a loss by the company in 2008 of 1,688 million Euros. The board attributes these results in particular to the cost reduction programme launched at the end of 2008 and which generated savings of 1.1 billion Euros. Frank Appel, CEO Deutsche Post DHL : “ Thanks to strict cost management and the coherent implementation of our 2015 strategy, we are now in a position to take advantage of the global economic upturn”. For 2010, the group is predicting a recovery in global transport volumes. The Mail division and the DHL should contribute equally to group turnover. Net consolidated profits are forecast to make further progress in 2010.
